This contemporary Katakuru handwoven basket is made by one of over 600 female artisans who earn fair and reliable incomes in the post-conflict area of northeast Tanzania. Katakuru“ means „to pick up“ in Swahili, the national language of Tanzania. For this seagrass storage basket, the threads of upcycled white Gunia grain sacks are intricately woven into the natural grasses of the basket. With it’s simple and modern design, this Katakuru will add style and character to your home.
