Kitwaro Seagrass Basket With Lid
The Kitwaro Basket is a traditional product shape used by households in Tanzania to store grains or bring gifts to friends and family. We’re now bringing this traditional shape to your modern home as a meaningful accent object and a stylish way to store your household belongings or dry foods such as onions or garlic.
This product is part of the MADE51 Collection, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)’s global brand of refugee-made products. The baskets are carefully handcrafted by Burundian refugee women who recently returned to their home communities after having spent several years living in refugee camps in Tanzania. Your purchase will allow them to earn fair and reliable incomes and maintain their livelihood as they return to Burundi.
This particular Kitwaro Basket features the Inyabu design, stemming from the word “Inyabutatu”, representing the incredible “Resilience” of refugee artisans to use their weaving to provide a decent life for their families within the most challenging environment.
